Essential Duties What does the Assistant to the City Manager position entail? The Assistant to the City Manager position provides a variety of professional administrative and managerial duties in assisting the City Manager and the Deputy City Manager.
This position performs both assigned and independent duties.
Work involves assisting the City Manager in the administration and coordination of various governmental functions and programs and communicating those functions and programs to the Common Council, City departments and the general public, as necessary; and assisting the City Manager in the implementation of special programs and projects.
This position also coordinates the work assignments and supervises the Communication Specialist and Management Interns.
Minimum Position Requirements/Qualifications What are the minimum requirements/qualifications? To perform the essential duties of the position, the minimum education and experience required includes:
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree in public administration, political science, business administration, or closely related field is required.
A master's degree in business or public administration is highly desirable.
One to four years related experience in local government, serving in an administrative or managerial capacity is required.
Extensive experience of an increasingly responsible nature in local government administration as a Management Analyst or similar position is preferred.
Valid state-issued driver's license at time of hire is required.
Supplemental Information What is the typical schedule? Typically, you will work Monday through Friday between the hours of 7:
30 AM and 4:
30 PM; there is some flexibility to choose to your schedule between office hours.
What is the pay? The starting annual salary for this position is $63,584 - $69,942, with the opportunity to earn up to a 5% merit increase after six months based on job performance.
This position is also eligible for annual economic adjustments, as approved by the City Council.
